[ROM] ClearDroid [11/08/13]

Post by ClearD on Sat Nov 09, 2013 1:58 am

**Link removed until updater script fixed**

I have not personally tested this yet. It *should* work, but use caution and backup before doing any testing. Make sure to turn off Fastboot before doing anything.

DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible if this breaks anything. Period. Make a backup first in recovery.

The above download is a stock rooted rom, stock rooted boot image. Deodexed, zipaligned, nano text editor, bash installed.

Our phones come bootloader unlocked (S-On, though), rooted, and custom recovery installed, so it's essentially just a stock download.

Now comes the fun part. Smile

Will it have the wifi-tethering app in it? When you do a factory wipe, it seems to erase it. I am trying to work on one as well, but I have absolutely no practice in making a ROM nor in hosting one.

Sure will. I've got lots of experience in Roms, HTC ones in particular, so this is somewhat of a cakewalk for me at this point. Smile

Uploading a recovery-flashable stock rom right now. Includes bootloader and system image (which came stock deodexed, rooted, nano editor, and bash installed).

Gonna start playing with it soon, adding things like an extended shutdown menu for starters.

That would be awesome. There are not that many developers for this phone. The only signs of life are on Phandroid's Fourms. The best working ROMs are based off of HTC's last update 4.0.3. The ones I have used are from a dev there named jssa28. The developers that have tried to get the phone to work with JB have run into issues with the WiMAX modem, front camera, and bluetooth. The phone really needs some help in that regard.

Of course that may be too much to ask! I am sure you didn't sign up to be the savior for this phone! Smile

Phew, that may be somewhat beyond my abilities, but I can try. I actually don't have wimax towers in my area to even test though. Sad

Edit: Just posted the stock image, flashable through recovery. HOWEVER, I have not personally tested this yet. It *should* work, but use caution and backup before doing any testing.

Better than breaking something. That means there's an error in the updater script. Will test myself (and fix) once I get my phone back on tuesday. Smile

Okay, finally got around to working on it tonight. Build 2 is making right now, and I did 2 things this time.

1) It was hanging on flashing the boot.img, so I removed it. It won't get overwritten anyways, so it's not really needed yet, as we don't have a new kernel or anything to begin with.

2) I changed the way it formats and mounts /system from the old MTD method (which error logs showed didn't work to begin with) to the correct method of emmc and mmcblk0p26. It's an EXT4 filesystem.

Let's see what this one does. Smile Keep in mind, I didn't sleep last night and it's now 10:30 pm...

Alright, I've found out a little more about our device. It was also released under 2 other carriers as the "HTC Hero S", and there is another recovery out there for it, made by someone in China, I suppose. I'm looking into several things, but my main problem right now is that the update-binary I've got is old and outdated, and isn't recognizing the arguments I'm feeding it. So, I'm looking for a new one today, as it's not wiping the system partition before flashing, which could create a problem.

Update: Alright, after about the 5th or 6th build, I've got one that flashes properly, wipes properly, and flashes the boot image without error. Now, I'm just getting some piddly little problem with wifi not working, which I assume to be an issue inside /system/lib, so I'll be working on that now.
